Summer Heat in the Pacific Northwest
It almost feels like an oxymoron to type “heat” and “Pacific Northwest” in the same sentence. While most of the rest of the USA broils with record high temps, (I had one Facebook friend post that the heat index for her area was 104 degrees!) our summer is just getting started.
Typically we do not experience summer until after the 4th of July. June is usually cold, dreary, gray and often rainy. Not quite as rainy and cold as the winter but June and summer are antonyms here.
But today the sun is shining. It’s in the 80’s today. For us this is hot. And it is summer. I know that sounds very cool when you live somewhere where the temps are in the 90’s most of the summer but in the 11 years we’ve lived here, I don’t think temps have ever reached three digits. EVER. Generally if we get into the 90’s we start hitting records.
I love summer in the Pacific Northwest. I did not like summer in the Midwest or the Upper Midwest (hot, humid, muggy and mosquitos. No thank you!) and summer in the south? Just melt me and be done with it. So it may not seem like we need to “beat the heat” when it’s only in the 80’s outside but that’s very warm for us.
So how do we beat our heat? Well I’m enjoying a yogurt/fruit smoothie thing that my daughter just made. Ice, strawberries, blueberries, a touch of sugar and some vanilla yogurt blended together in our Vitamix.
Check out this week’s Blog Cruise (Available after Tuesday!) at at School House Review Crew to see how how other Crew Members beat the summer heat. Still waiting for Tuesday? Check out past Blog Cruise topics!
